PLYMOUTH, NC, UNITED STATES, August 20, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Washington County Welcomes Washingtons Unite Quilt Exhibit Historic quilt exhibit to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary and honor Washington County’s community heritage

Washington County will welcome the Washingtons Unite quilt on September 5 as part of a special commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary. The quilt will be exhibited September 9–12 at the Roanoke River Lighthouse and Maritime Museum on Water Street in Plymouth from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The Washingtons Unite project brings together Washington counties across the country through a collaborative quilt created for the America 250 observance. Washington County, North Carolina’s quilt square features the Roanoke River Lighthouse, a symbol connecting the county’s past and present and representing local history, trade, commerce, and community identity.

The exhibit will unite Washington County communities across the United States by displaying the Washingtons Unite quilt alongside treasured quilts made in the county’s many small settlements. At least a dozen local areas will be represented. Most of the quilts are at least 50 years old, with one made before the 1950s. These heirlooms, loaned by grandchildren and great-grandchildren, reflect the history, craftsmanship, and legacy of past generations.
During the September 9–12 exhibit, daily themes will highlight different audiences, including children, clubs, organizations, and individual visitors. Organizers hope the exhibit will draw guests from across the region, the state, and beyond.

A special reception will be held on Sunday, September 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. Local and state dignitaries are being invited to attend and recognize this unique commemoration.

Media outlets are invited to help share this story of heritage, community, and remembrance. Organizers welcome opportunities for coverage, interviews, feature programming, and expanded publicity that will bring attention to Washington County’s participation in this national America 250 celebration.
